Self Defense Living is not a site that is intended to "train" anyone in fighting, firearms, or weapons use for self defense.
What it does is gives insight into what direction to take.
It asks you questions about your and your family's level of security and safety where you live, work and choose to go.
It gives direction, not on direct engagement of criminals, but on how to proceed in making your and your family's environment secure.
It gives direction on preparing yourself physically for self defense, should it be required.
There's plenty of online training in terms of advice, expert demonstration, martial arts, etc.
But what true self defense will require is action on your part for any of it to work.
That's what this site is about, and what I hope it will produce. Action.

Self Defense = Personal Security + Safety
The ultimate form of self defense is implementing intentional security and safety.
What does the term “self defense” mean to you? What do you think is necessary to lead a safe, peaceful, comfortable existence free from worry about danger? Remember, Location + Security = Safety.
Can you walk around your neighborhood after dark without fear of danger? Really? Remember security is not a feeling.
What you “feel” like makes no difference to the car full of thugs that find an opportunity to assault you when they drive by.
The big, unleashed, vicious dog that runs out at you from between houses doesn’t care how safe you feel. The thief casing your house for days is not concerned about your feelings of personal safety while you’re out walking around because he is in your house loading up your belongings as you walk. If you enter your house while he is still there, it’s likely he will do whatever he has to do to get past you and escape irrespective of your feelings about your safety. True personal self defense living stops this before it happens.
Family self defense essentials are simple but necessary.
But does constant worry about your safety, and hiding inside in fear make your life better? Taking care of a few family security essentials, nobody should have to live that way.
It would be nice to think that if we go out about our business, the police will be there to protect us in case would be attackers assault us. Sadly, police generally show up on the scene after crimes have already been committed. Too late if you’re the victim.
Think of all the assaults, rapes, robberies, murders, beatings, etc. you read and hear about weekly. Obviously, the police were not available to protect the victims of all these crimes. Now think about all the personal security advice you’ve heard from people advocating being protected by the police as opposed to taking action yourself. Who is responsible for family security?
The act of keeping yourself and your family secure, and consequently safe, is up to you. The police will not do it. You must take responsibility for your own safety by taking whatever steps are necessary to secure your environment. The ultimate form of self defense is taking preliminary steps to prevent criminals access to you or your loved ones.
While the specifics of personal self defense methods, products, weapons, etc., will be covered later, now is the time to consider your environment and decide what you need to protect yourself personally based on where you go, and what you do.
A small or moderate amount of protection may provide a safe environment where you live, work and play. Just a little adjustment to your daily routine and one or two self defense products may be all you reasonably need.
However, if you live in a more dangerous environment or often go to isolated or dangerous locations for whatever reason, you may have to consider more stringent security measures. Sometimes more serious self defense weapons or even an appropriate defensive handgun may be necessary.
In some cases the tools you use for sporting activities such as hunting, fishing, biking, camping, etc., can be used as self defense weapons. As you proceed in your study and consideration of your self defense needs, keep in mind the legalities that must be seriously considered in carrying any weapon or self defense product.
Consider what you might creatively use for personal self defense.
Now in review, here’s where we are so far:
If you can intentionally stay in a safe environment and live your life normally, do so. To do otherwise is to ask for danger unnecessarily. If, however, like most of us, you must at least sometimes venture into less safe territory, securing your environment to some degree is necessary. If you must be in unsafe places or live in an unsafe environment, then securing your environment to make it safe takes more extreme measures. It takes more intensive training and weapons. Location + Security = Safety.
5 Points of Self Defense Pathway: Safety<>Security > Awareness > Health > Action. Our hope is that after exploring this web site thoroughly, it will be clear that having a safe environment will mean you will never have to take action.
But if self defense action is necessary, you’ll be shown how to prepare for it. It's kind of important that your action, whatever it may have to be, results in you and yours being left alive and unharmed.
Self defense living is discussed throughout. But only a portion actually involves engaging criminals in a physical challenge. Never having to get to that point should be the goal.
That's the point of intentional personal security and safety.
